Missouri SHIP provides free, unbiased and confidential Medicare counseling statewide and does not sell insurance. Call 1-800-390-3330 for counseling access.

Medicare.gov and 1-800-MEDICARE can provide information about every Medicare Advantage and Part D option available in an area.

Turning 65 or Retiring

Missouri residents approaching 65 may be automatically enrolled or may need to apply through Social Security. Employer size, active employment, COBRA, retiree coverage, Marketplace coverage and HSA contributions can change the right timeline.

Use the Medicare Enrollment resource center to identify the correct enrollment path. Social Security makes official Part A and Part B enrollment determinations; a broker can help organize the private plan comparison and the questions to take to an employer or agency.

Missouri Medigap Anniversary Rule

Federal Medigap open-enrollment and guaranteed-issue protections apply in Missouri. Missouri also provides an annual window for eligible policyholders to change to a Medicare Supplement policy with the same standardized benefits without medical underwriting. The timing and eligibility details matter, so verify the current rule before replacing coverage.

Moving With Medicare

Original Medicare generally travels with you inside the United States when the provider accepts Medicare. Medicare Advantage and Part D plans use service areas, so a permanent move into, out of or within Missouri can create a Special Enrollment Period or require a coverage change. A Medicare Supplement is generally portable, but the premium and available switching rights can change.
